Located in the rugged terrain on the far northern coast of Maui is a natural wonder that attracts thousands of visitors each year, the Nakalele Blowhole. While you can glimpse the blowhole after only a short walk from your car, to fully experience its power you will need to hike down a steep and precarious cliff face. Many people make the hike each day, but injuries are not uncommon. There have even been several deaths resulting from the massive force of the waves crashing against and over the rocks washing people into the ocean. At least one person was even sucked into the blowhole itself and died.

If you are careful, however, you can safely be rewarded with an inspiring site unique to Maui. As water from the ocean forces its way under the rocks a hole in the rock floor provides a relief for the pressure, giving those watching an awesome spectacle of site and sound as the water spews up to 100′ in the air.
